A typical manicure kit contains:
- Cotton pads
- Emery board
- Base coat
- Orange wood stick

To have the good looking nails, you also need to have warm water- ready in a bowl. Often salt or scented oils are added to this. Now follow the steps below.
- If you are wearing any type of nail polish, whether clear coating, you have to remove it. It can be easily done with a nail polish remover. Soak a cotton ball with the polish remover and rub it gently on your nail- one by one.
- It is often advised by the technicians that you use the emery board to file the edge of the nail instead of a nail clipper. By doing this, you can avoid pointed nails. Hold the board at a 45 degree angle from the nail and start filing.

- You can also use manicuring scissors to cut your fingernails. It prevents tearing of nails, but be sure get a nice pair of nail scissors.
- Using a little amount cuticle serum under your nail will eliminates germs and keep them clean.
- Dip your fingertips in a bowl of dish-washing liquid. It is best to soak the nails for ten minutes. This process thoroughly cleans and softens your fingernails.
- The nails and the skin around it should be now be scrubbed with the soft nail brush.
- To soften and round the edges, use the pumice stone soaked in a warm water to file the nails. It is very helpful to remove the calluses on your fingers and palms.
Normal soaps sometimes do not wash all the discoloration and stains off, which can be removed by pumice stone.
- Use the orangewood stick to clean underneath the nails. Never use metals for this purpose or your nails and fingers will be harmed.
- After drying your hands thoroughly, use the cuticle enclosed in a washcloth to rinse the back of the nails. You can also use the cuticle remover for this purpose.
- If you see hanging nails, then trim them with the nail scissors. Do no cut too deep and be careful as you go along. If some of the cuticle remover is left behind, you should wash it off because they are very strong chemicals. If they remain on your nails, it may just damage them.

- Apply hand lotion or cream on your hands.
- Buffing the nails can improve blood circulation which would give them a bright and healthy look. It will also make the nails shiny and better to look at.
